Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the M.S. Swaminathan Centenary International Conference on 7th August 2025, at 9:00 AM at ICAR Pusa, New Delhi. He will present first-ever M.S. Swaminathan Award for Food and PeaceThe conference is being held to celebrate the contributions of the late agricultural scientist Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, known as the Father of India’s Green Revolution.
The theme of the conference is “Evergreen Revolution: The Pathway to Biohappiness”. It aims to promote sustainable agriculture, food security, climate resilience, and inclusive development. The event will bring together scientists, policymakers, development professionals, youth, women, and farmers to discuss modern agricultural practices and rural development.
According to the government, the discussions will focus on:
- Protecting biodiversity and natural resources
- Promoting climate-smart and sustainable farming
- Ensuring food and nutrition security
- Using modern technologies for rural livelihoods
- Engaging youth, women, and marginalized communities in growth
To honour Prof. Swaminathan’s legacy, the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) along with The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) is launching the M.S. Swaminathan Award for Food and Peace.
Prime Minister Modi will present this award for the first time at the event.
This international award will recognize individuals from developing countries who have made outstanding contributions in:
- Improving food security
- Promoting climate justice
- Supporting peace and equity through research, policy, or grassroots work
The award aims to encourage efforts that help vulnerable and rural communities through science, innovation, and dedication.
