On August 5, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared an article that talks about how the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has helped millions of poor people get access to banking and financial services.
The article, written by @Himani_Sood_, explains how this scheme has helped connect people who were earlier outside the banking system. Now, even the poorest citizens can open bank accounts, save money, get insurance, and receive direct benefit transfers (DBTs) from the government.
In a post shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said:
“Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has transformed access to financial services for the poorest. It has bridged the gap between banks and the unbanked, promoting dignity, self-reliance and economic inclusion.”
The scheme, launched in 2014, has made a big difference by:
- Making bank accounts free and easy to open
- Giving people ATM cards and mobile banking
- Helping women, farmers, and daily-wage earners save money safely
- Making sure government subsidies go directly into people’s bank accounts
This effort has helped reduce poverty and has brought millions into the formal economy, a big step towards self-reliance and inclusive development in India.
