The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted a drug smuggling syndicate in a nationwide operation called “WeedOut”. The raids took place on 20th and 21st August 2025 at Bengaluru, Bhopal, Delhi, and other locations.

At Bengaluru Railway Station, officials seized 29.88 kg of hydroponic weed from two passengers on the Rajdhani Express. On the same train, at Bhopal Junction, another 24.18 kg was found with two passengers.

In Delhi, the syndicate’s mastermind was caught with ₹1.02 crore in illegal earnings. Later, in Bengaluru, a passenger arriving from Thailand was caught at a hotel with 17.95 kg of hydroponic weed.

In total, 72 kg of drugs worth around ₹72 crore and cash worth ₹1.02 crore were seized.

Officials said the gang targeted college dropouts and unemployed youth through social media to work for them. All five passengers and the mastermind have been arrested.

The case has been booked under the NDPS Act, 1985, which has strict punishments for drug crimes.
