Governor Shaktikanta Das of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has emphasized that despite the Indian economy’s continued strength and stability, they are not complacent, particularly in light of the quickly changing global landscape.

He asserts that India’s growth story is still intact and that the balance between inflation and growth is well-positioned.

We still have a ways to go, but inflation is on a downward trajectory. The economy’s strength is demonstrated by the external sector. Forex reserves are at all-time highs. The process of fiscal consolidation is in progress. In the most recent RBI monthly report, he stated that the financial industry is still strong and resilient.

Das went on to say that investor confidence in India’s future is maybe at an all-time high.
He said that “we stand unambiguously committed to ensure durable alignment of inflation with the target” and that “we are, however, not complacent, especially amid rapidly evolving global conditions.”

The Central Bank claims that private final consumption expenditure (PFCE), which is the foundation of aggregate demand, has recovered significantly, rising 7.4% in Q1 FY25 and adding 4.2 percentage points to GDP growth overall.

Demand in rural areas is gradually increasing. According to the RBI, tractor sales increased in June and July of 2024, while motorcycle sales continued to show positive development in April and August of the same year.

Additionally, in Q2 of FY 2024–2025, the demand for labor under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) decreased by 16.6%, indicating an improvement in employment in the farm sector.

“Rural demand is positively correlated with spending on fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) in rural areas. The RBI document emphasized that the favorable outlook for agriculture, bolstered by above-normal rainfall during the south-west monsoon (SWM), higher cumulative kharif planting, and enhanced reservoir levels, bodes well for maintaining the recovery in rural demand.

With private consumption and investment expanding simultaneously, domestic growth has maintained its impetus, it continued.
