ROURKELA, AUG 24

The sporting infrastructure in Steel City is poised for a major upgrade as Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) announces a significant investment in modernization. During his Independence Day speech, Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-charge of RSP, revealed extensive projects aimed at revitalizing local sports facilities. RSP has committed over Rs. 11 crore to this initiative, marking a substantial boost to the region’s sports ecosystem.

Key projects include a comprehensive renovation of the Ispat Stadium in Sector-6, here. Planned upgrades feature the construction of four multi-storey changing rooms equipped with modern amenities. Additional enhancements will include improved lighting, a new sprinkler system with water storage and connections, repairs to the boundary wall and VIP area, and renovations to the football ground, cycling pitch, fitness path, and washrooms. In the Ispat Basketball Complex, a new shed will be built for players. At the Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium, a new volleyball ground will be developed, complete with ground fencing, lighting, and seating for players.

The Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium will also receive significant upgrades, including the installation of floodlights at a cost of Rs. 3 crore. This follows a major overhaul in 2023, when RSP invested approximately Rs. 12 crore to install a state-of-the-art synthetic turf, a new sprinkler system, and other facilities. The addition of floodlights is expected to further enhance the stadium’s impact on the sport and its players in the region.
