ROURKELA, NOV 18
A professional talk on ‘Developing Problem Solving Mindset on the Emerging Challenges in the Industries’ was held on Saturday at the Learning and Development Department of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). The session, aimed at enhancing problem-solving skills among senior officers, was presided over by PK Maharana, General Manager (Internal Audit), and was attended by over 50 senior officers, including Heads of Departments (HODs).
The guest speaker for the event was Prof. Partha Dasgupta, Senior Fellow at the IIT Guwahati Technology Innovation Hub. Prof. Dasgupta, a renowned expert in technology and innovation, highlighted the importance of cultivating a “problem-solving mindset” to address the evolving challenges in the industrial sector.
During the session, Prof. Dasgupta emphasized the concept of a “free-flow zone” — a mental state where one’s responsibilities align effortlessly with their tasks. He pointed out that individuals must bridge skill gaps and foster smooth execution by embracing a mindset that is adaptable and solution-focused. Among the key principles shared by the speaker were the importance of curiosity to overcome natural biases, adopting an imperfectionist approach to embrace uncertainty, and utilizing a “dragonfly-eye” perspective to synthesize diverse viewpoints for clarity and better predictive accuracy.
Prof. Dasgupta also introduced the concept of “Occurrent Behaviour,” urging attendees to actively create new data and challenge existing hypotheses to drive innovation. He underscored the power of collective intelligence in decision-making and the significance of clear, effective communication through the principle of “Show and Tell.” These insights were aimed at equipping the leaders with strategies to nurture creativity, adaptability, and collaboration within their teams.
The session was coordinated by Ashish Kumar, Assistant General Manager (Internal Audit). The formal vote of thanks was delivered by PK Maharana.
