The Government of India has launched a new programme called the Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme to help young people gain real work experience in India’s top companies. Who Can Apply?
This scheme is meant for youth who:
- Are Indian citizens
- Are aged between 21 to 24 years (as of the last date of application)
- Are not doing any full-time job
- Are not studying in full-time courses, but those doing distance or online learning can apply
- Have passed 10th, 12th, ITI, Diploma, or Graduation in streams like BA, BSc, BCom, BBA, BCA, BPharma, etc.
- Have a family income less than ₹8,00,000 per year
Who Cannot Apply?
You cannot apply if:
- You are a graduate from IIT, IIM, NLU, IISER, NID, IIIT
- You have a CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MBA, or any master’s or higher degree
- You are already doing any Central/State internship, apprenticeship, or skill training
- You have done apprenticeship under NATS or NAPS before
- Any of your family members is a permanent government employee
- Your family income is above ₹8 lakh
(Note: “Family” includes self, parents, and spouse)
Internship Duration and Work Nature
- The internship will last for 12 months
- At least 6 months must be spent in actual office work, not just classroom training
- The experience will involve learning real business tasks like team meetings, report writing, managing files, digital tools, and customer support
What Will You Get?
Interns will receive:
- ₹4500 per month from the Government of India
- ₹500 per month from the company/industry
- A one-time grant of ₹6000 for basic needs
- Insurance cover under two national schemes:
- Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana
- Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana
All payments are made via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) into your bank account.
