Over 5 Lakh Loans Approved Under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana

PM Surya Ghar scheme

07 OCT 2025, New Delhi

The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana has reached an important milestone. As of September 2025, Public Sector Banks (PSBs) have approved over 5.79 lakh loan applications, worth around ₹10,907 crore. These loans are helping people install rooftop solar panels on their homes to get clean and free electricity.

The government is making the loan process easier and faster. People can apply for loans online through the Jan Samarth Portal, which is linked to the official website pmsuryaghar.gov.in. This digital system allows users to complete the process easily without much paperwork.

Under this scheme, people can get loans up to ₹2 lakh at low interest rates, without giving any property as security (collateral). The repayment time is long, matching the savings from reduced electricity bills. Borrowers also get a 6-month break before they start repaying the loan.

To make the scheme more useful and accessible, several changes have been made:

  • Co-applicants (like family members) can now also apply.
  • Earlier limits on solar capacity have been removed.
  • Fewer documents are needed for loan approval.

The Department of Financial Services and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy are working together to monitor progress. They are coordinating with state-level and district-level banks to make sure more people can benefit from the scheme quickly.

This initiative is helping thousands of households switch to solar energy, reducing electricity bills and promoting clean, green energy across the country.
