Prime Minister of India recently went on an official visit to the Maldives. During this trip, many important agreements and projects were discussed and launched. Here are the main points explained in simple words:
Big Announcements and Agreements:
- India will give ₹4,850 crores as a loan to help Maldives with development projects.
- India has agreed to reduce the amount Maldives has to repay every year for earlier loans. This will help Maldives manage its money better.
- India and Maldives will start talks for a Free Trade Agreement, which means both countries can trade goods with fewer taxes or restrictions in the future.
- Both countries released a special stamp to celebrate 60 years of friendship and diplomatic relations between India and Maldives.
Projects Inaugurated or Handed Over:
- India gave 3,300 new social housing flats in Hulhumale to the Maldives.
- New roads and drainage systems were opened in Addu City.
- 6 small but important development projects were launched in different parts of Maldives.
- India gave 72 vehicles and other useful equipment to Maldives.
- India handed over 2 BHISHM Health Cube sets – these are modern medical kits for quick health services.
- A new Ministry of Defence building was opened in Male, the capital of Maldives.
Signed Agreements Between Both Countries:
- Loans, trade deals, and easier debt repayments were signed by leaders from both sides.
- New agreements in fields like fisheries, weather, environment, and digital technology were also signed.
- India and Maldives agreed to work together in digital projects like health and education apps.
- Maldives will now recognize Indian medicine standards, which will make importing medicines easier.
- A new system will be started to use India’s UPI digital payments in Maldives too, making money transfers simple for tourists and locals.
This visit shows that India and Maldives are close friends and are working together to improve lives, trade, and development in both countries.
