The India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), which is part of the Department of Posts, Government of India, has introduced a new and helpful feature for all its customers across the country. This new feature is called Aadhaar-based Face Authentication.
From now on, IPPB customers can do important banking activities like sending money, checking balance, or opening a new account simply by scanning their face, without needing to give fingerprints or enter one-time passwords (OTPs).
What is Face Authentication?
Face Authentication means verifying a person’s identity by using their face — just like many smartphones unlock with face ID. This method is supported by UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), which handles Aadhaar services in India.
Why This Matters
Many people especially senior citizens, people with disabilities, or those who face problems with fingerprint scanners find it difficult to use regular biometric devices or mobile OTPs. With this new face authentication:
- No physical touch is needed – just show your face to the device.
- No need for passwords or PINs – helpful for people who forget easily.
- Secure and quick – reduces the chance of fraud or fake identity.
- Safer during health issues – like COVID-19 or other illnesses where physical contact should be avoided.
What IPPB’s CEO Said
Shri R. Viswesvaran, the Managing Director & CEO of IPPB, said:
“At IPPB, we believe banking should be not just easy, but also respectful. With face authentication, we are giving a chance to those who struggle with other forms of verification. It’s more than a feature it’s a step toward true financial inclusion.”
