The PM Vishwakarma Scheme’s ‘Basic Skill Training’ program has started to improve and modernize the traditional skills of craftspeople and craftsmen in 26 states and union territories.
The Basic Skill Training project has certified 5,17,835 candidates as of July 19, according to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
With 112,737 qualified applicants, Karnataka is in first place. Jammu and Kashmir, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra are next.
On September 17, 2023, the PM Vishwakarma Scheme was introduced to assist skilled workers in 18 different trades who utilise their hands and tools in their profession. The program offers rewards for digital transactions, skill development, toolkit incentives, credit support, and marketing assistance in addition to recognition through the PM Vishwakarma certificate and ID card.
As of July 29, loan sanctions totaling Rs 551.80 crore had been issued to 56,526 applications under the scheme’s credit component. A total of Rs 132.49 crore in loans have been disbursed to 15,878 applications nationwide.
Additionally, of the 1.438 million eligible beneficiaries who were successfully enrolled, 905,328 applications chose to receive marketing help.
The program’s goals are to develop livelihood options, assist traditional craftsmen and craftspeople in becoming self-sufficient and entrepreneurs, improve skills, and incorporate contemporary tools and technologies into their work. They will be connected to both local and international markets.
The Department of Financial Services (DFS) of the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) are implementing the program in tandem.
The Secretaries of DFS, MSDE, and MoMSME co-chair the National Steering Committee meetings, which are essential to the efficient rollout of the PM Vishwakarma plan throughout the nation.
