East Coast Railway launches girders for Road Over Bridge at VSS Nagar

ECoR girders for Road Over Bridge

BHUBANESWAR, SEP 20

The East Coast Railway (ECoR) achieved a significant milestone by launching five 36-metre, 35-ton steel girders in just three hours for a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at VSS Nagar in Bhubaneswar. This operation was part of a project aimed at replacing a congested level crossing between Bhubaneswar and Mancheswar Railway Stations.

The successful execution required meticulous planning, especially given the busy Howrah-Chennai Main Line. The Chief Project Manager and his team navigated various logistical challenges to complete this critical task.

The new ROB will alleviate traffic congestion in the area, which has seen a Train Vehicle Unit (TVU) count of 2 lakh during the last census. By eliminating the bottleneck at the level crossing, the project aims to enhance road safety and improve train operations.

While the girders are now in place, the remaining work, including deck slab installations and approach junctions, is expected to finish by December 2024. The state government is also on track to complete the road approaches concurrently.

With an investment of Rs 48.2 crore for the railway portion, this project aligns with Indian Railways’ mission to enhance safety and efficiency, benefiting commuters and train services alike.
