Contracts signed for construction of new Stamp Charge Coke Ovens Battery #7 at RSP

Contracts signed RSP

ROURKELA, OCT 7

Between October 3 and 7, 2024, the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) signed three contracts for the construction of the new Stamp Charge Coke Ovens Battery #7. This initiative aims to meet the plant’s coke requirements while also reducing production costs.

Currently, RSP operates six top-charged Coke Oven Batteries (COBs). Among them, five are smaller units, while COB-6, which was constructed during the last expansion phase, is larger.

The upcoming Battery #7 will be SAIL’s first stamp charge battery, designed with a capacity of 1 million tons per annum of coal throughput. It will be constructed alongside new By-Product and Coke Dry Cooling Plant (CDCP) facilities. Battery #7 is expected to lower the input cost of the coke blend and produce higher-quality coke, thereby improving techno-economic parameters.

Global open tenders were issued for three major project packages, with bids successfully finalized for awarding the work to the selected contractors. On October 7, 2024, a contract was signed with the consortium of M/s L&T and M/s Thyssenkrupp Uhde GmbH, Germany, for the battery proper, including oven machines and refractory.

On October 5, 2024, another contract was signed with the consortium of M/s BEC, M/s GIPROKOKOS, and M/s CUI, Ukraine, for the CDCP and DM Water Plant. On October 4, 2024, a contract for the erection of the By-Product Plant, including the BOD Plant, was signed with the consortium of M/s Hutni Projekt Frydek, Czech Republic, and M/s Hutni Projekt FM (India).

Executive Director (HR), Tarun Misra, signed the contracts on behalf of RSP with senior officers from the respective companies.
