New Delhi, Feb 6

India and the UK are joining forces to speed up the transition to green hydrogen, a clean energy source. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) worked together with the British Standards Institution (BSI) and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to host a two-day workshop in New Delhi focused on setting standards for green hydrogen production and regulation.

During the workshop, Abbey Dorian, Energy Sector Lead at BSI, highlighted that the event is a major step toward international cooperation in clean energy. “India and the UK have a shared ambition to become leaders in green hydrogen and support a net zero future,” she said.

The workshop is part of the UK government’s Standards Partnership programme, which aims to use international standards to boost growth, attract investment, and improve trade in India. Key topics included creating safe, scalable, and globally accepted rules and fast-tracking publicly available standards and certification for hydrogen.

This initiative also supports India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission by identifying gaps in current standards, exploring new areas, and connecting experts from around the world. Policymakers, technical experts, and industry leaders from both countries shared ideas and best practices to help build a strong and competitive green hydrogen market.

The workshop was opened by Rajiv Sharma, Deputy Director General (Standardisation-I) at BIS, Laura Aylett, Head of Climate and Energy at the British High Commission, and Abbey Dorian, marking a joint commitment by India and the UK to drive innovation and sustainability in the green hydrogen sector.
