In a big step towards clean energy, India has achieved a major milestone by discovering a record-low price of ₹55.75 per kg for Green Ammonia in the first-ever auction conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). This auction was held under the National Green Hydrogen Mission as part of the SIGHT Scheme (Mode-2A).
The Green Ammonia will be supplied to Paradeep Phosphates Limited in Odisha, with a total supply of 75,000 metric tonnes per year. This is just the beginning—13 more auctions will be held soon, covering a total of 7.24 lakh metric tonnes per year.
Earlier, in a 2024 global auction, the price of Green Ammonia was ₹100.28/kg (about USD 1,153 per metric tonne). Now, the price has dropped to ₹55.75/kg (about USD 641/MT), which is even lower than Grey Ammonia (around USD 515/MT in March 2025). This makes Green Ammonia a more affordable and eco-friendly option for industries.
The auction was managed by SECI with the support of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Department of Fertilizers, and the industries that will use the Green Ammonia, to boost to India’s green goals.
This price breakthrough is being seen as a turning point for India’s green energy goals. It shows growing confidence from investors and companies in India’s efforts to switch to cleaner energy.
With secure payment systems and clear government support, this scheme is expected to encourage more industries to move toward Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia, helping India become a global leader in clean energy.
