Cabinet Approves Phase-1B of Lucknow Metro Project Worth ₹5,801 Crore

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project in Uttar Pradesh. The new corridor will cover 11.165 km with 12 stations seven underground and five elevated  at a total outlay of ₹5,801 crore.

Once operational, Lucknow will have a total of 34 km of active metro network.

Key Features of Phase-1B:

  • Enhanced Connectivity: Links Old Lucknow’s commercial hubs like Aminabad, Yahiyaganj, Pandeyganj, and Chowk, major healthcare facilities such as King George’s Medical University, and tourist spots including Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Rumi Darwaza, and Bhool Bhulaiya.
  • Traffic Reduction: Expected to ease congestion in densely populated areas.
  • Environmental Impact: Reduction in carbon emissions through a shift from road transport to metro.
  • Economic Boost: Improved access to business hubs, airports, railway stations, and bus depots, stimulating local commerce and tourism.
  • Social Benefits: More equitable access to public transport for diverse socio-economic groups.

Officials said the project is expected to transform urban mobility in Lucknow, cut travel time, and support sustainable city growth.
