According to sources, 1.27 lakh internship opportunities were provided by the approximately 280 organizations that took part in the PM Internship Scheme (PMIS).
The onboarding period for corporate involvement in the Scheme, which began on October 3 for corporates to register their internship offers, is now concluded by the Center.
However, it is anticipated that the youth registration period, which opened on October 12, will continue until early November.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the plan in the Union Budget 2024, allocating Rs 800 crore for the trial project. Over the next five years, it will help almost 10 million young people, addressing youth unemployment. Additionally, it will link young individuals with talent-seeking companies.
The PMIS program, which is run by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), offers worthwhile internship opportunities for young people and is open to the top 500 corporations based on their average CSR spending over the previous three fiscal years.
Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Tech Mahindra, ONGC, Bajaj Finance, Eicher Motors, Max Life Insurance, Muthoot Finance, and Jubilant Foodworks are among the well-known businesses that are involved in the program.
The industries having the most internship possibilities include banking and financial services, tourism and hospitality, automotive, oil and gas and energy, and metals and mining. Manufacturing, industrial, infrastructure and construction, IT and software development, FMCG, and telecom are other important industries that provide internships.
737 districts in 28 States and 8 Union Territories now provide internship opportunities.
The chosen young people will receive a one-time award of Rs 6,000 and a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000, in addition to the opportunity to intern for a year at any of the top 500 Indian enterprises.
Companies will contribute Rs 500 of the Rs 5,000 stipend through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, while the government will supply the rest Rs 4,500.
