ROURKELA, SEP 18
“True transformation in safety can only be achieved when it becomes a personal priority for employees at every level of the organization,” emphasized Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge (DIC) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), during the inauguration of a two-day Orientation Workshop on ‘Effective Implementation of Safety Circle’ at the Learning & Development Centre of RSP on Wednesday.
Outlining the core objectives of the Safety Circle Scheme, Bhowmick stated, “The primary purpose of the Safety Circle scheme is to promote collaboration, empower employees, cultivate accountability, facilitate continuous learning, and develop a culture of total safety.” Reflecting on previous safety initiatives like ‘Surakhya Chakra’ and ‘Surakhya Samrat’ at RSP, he emphasized the need to adapt and redefine every safety intervention to keep pace with evolving challenges, ensuring their effectiveness. “Instilling safety in every employee will not only improve production and workplace culture but also elevate the esteem of the organization,” he added.
Tarun Misra, ED (HR); Alok Verma, ED (Mines); Anil Kumar, CGM In-Charge (MM); and Dr. JK Acharya, CMO In-Charge (M&HS) also graced the event.
The workshop was attended by CGMs, HoDs, and senior officers from the plant.
Notably, the Safety Circle has been recently launched by SAIL across its units to enhance workplace safety and promote a proactive risk management culture, actively involving employees at all levels.
In his address, Tarun Misra underscored the importance of creating a safe work environment through a bottom-up approach rather than a top-down mechanism, ensuring that every employee feels engaged in the safety process.
Alok Verma highlighted the necessity of cultural transformation, stating that this shift “must come from within” to be truly effective.
Earlier, Rajashri Banerjee, CGM (HR-L&D), spoke about the significance of the program in her welcome address. Asha Kartha, CGM (Safety & Fire Services), delivered the vote of thanks. The inaugural session was coordinated by Binita Tirkey, Manager (HR-L&D).
The two-day workshop will cover various salient features meticulously designed by the QCFI, Bhilai Chapter. GP Singh and AK Kapoor, industry experts from QCFI, are the resource persons for the workshop.
