Rajiv Kumar, Vice President of Operations at Tata Steel Kalinganagar, highlights the plant’s ongoing community engagement efforts, including skill development programs, infrastructure projects, and healthcare initiatives. “We are committed to sustainable practices and responsible resource management,” he says, adding that the plant adheres to stringent environmental standards to minimize its impact.
The plant’s Phase II expansion introduces India’s largest blast furnace, with advanced, eco-friendly features designed to optimize steel production while reducing environmental impact. Innovations like a dry gas cleaning plant, evaporative cooling system, and rainwater harvesting will significantly reduce water and power consumption by 20%.
The Phase II expansion will increase Kalinganagar’s capacity from 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 8 MTPA, making Odisha the largest investment hub for Tata Steel, with a total investment of over Rs 100,000 crore in the last decade. This growth aligns with India’s vision for self-reliance and sustainable industrial progress.
