From August 6 to 8, the Ministry of External Affairs, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), will hold the inaugural BIMSTEC Business Summit, an official statement was released on Monday.

The goal of the inaugural Business Summit is to promote stronger trade and investment ties between the member nations of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), which unites two South-East Asian nations (Myanmar & Thailand) and five South Asian nations (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, India, & Sri Lanka).

According to the source, S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, will open the Business Summit.
Keynote speakers will include Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industries, and other prominent figures.

Along with high-ranking government officials, legislators, business owners, and industry groups, the event will feature several Ministers of the BIMSTEC Member States from the fields of trade, commerce, and industry as well as energy, he said.

More than 300 important participants from the Bay of Bengal region would be present, he added, to foster economic cooperation and explore future directions in areas of interest like trade facilitation, regional connectivity, energy security, equitable growth, and sustainable development.

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval visited the 4th Annual Meeting of the BIMSTEC countries at the end of last month.

He called on Senior General Min Aung Hai, the Prime Minister, and held a meeting with Admiral Moe Aung, the NSA of Myanmar.

At the BIMSTEC meeting, NSA Doval gave the national statement for India and discussed stepping up counterterrorism collaboration as well as fighting organized crime, drug trafficking, and arms smuggling.

He also discussed the 2nd Ports Conclave, BIMSTEC connectivity, and the water security of the Himalayan river systems.
