In order to handle the increasing traffic demand on its 5G network in the nation, Bharti Airtel announced on Monday that it has begun re-farming its current mid-band spectrum.

Airtel stated in a statement that it is re-farming its mid-band spectrum to extend 5G services on its 1800, 2100, and 2300 MHz bands across the nation as more users switch to the 5G network.

Customers can thus benefit from faster browsing speeds as well as better indoor coverage.

The company claims that in order to give its consumers an excellent 5G experience, it is re-farming its current spectrum at a faster rate as data demand rises.

Bharti Airtel’s CTO, Randeep Sekhon, stated, “We have re-farmed our mid band spectrum which was being used for 4G services as more customers pivot to our 5G services.”

We can now introduce standalone technologies with this. This would enable us to provide the greatest experience available in the industry because the Airtel network will be the first in India to operate in both stand-alone and non-standalone modes,” he said.

According to Airtel, the SA and NSA switch pilot project’s outcomes in Rewari, Chennai, and Bhubaneswar have been positive.

This capability on the 5G network will enable Airtel to introduce new innovative applications, services and solutions through open APIs, differentiated connectivity and service-based architecture.

Spectrum re-farming offers repurposing of spectrum bands for existing spectrum resources, according to the needs of different system standards.

Airtel’s 5G roll-out has been one of the fastest in the country and is now available across all 28 states and eight union territories.
