Contract manufacturing company Zetwerk officially announced on Monday that it will be collaborating with Smile Electronics, an electronics manufacturing services company based in Bengaluru, to establish three factories for the production of IT hardware in the nation, thereby supporting the ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The Devanahalli facility, which is close to Bengaluru, features completely automated manufacturing lines that are capable of assembling, testing, and packaging energy meters, remote controls, desktop computers, and laptops.
The last two factories are slated to open in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Harish Kohli, Managing Director of Acer India, who presided over the Devanahalli factory’s opening, stated, “This collaboration is further strengthened by Acer India’s commitment to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, emphasising the importance of local manufacturing and innovation.”
Zetwerk has pledged to invest one billion rupees towards enhancing India’s capacity for Electronic Systems Design and Manufacturing (ESDM).
With the capacity to generate 0.75 million components per hour, the company said that state-of-the-art technology like as automated screen printing, positioning, and reflow equipment ensure efficient production.
Smile Electronics’ chairman, Mukesh Gupta, stated that the company’s 750 knowledgeable workers from a variety of industries oversee a well-rounded portfolio that meets the needs of both high-mix, low-volume and low-mix, high-volume production.
Smile has been awarded the 1.0 and 2.0 IT hardware Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes by the government.
Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Zetwerk, said, “This partnership is a testament to the conducive business environment fostered by the government’s progressive policies and initiatives.”
To meet the demand for smart meters, mobile phones, wearables, televisions, and display devices, Zetwerk has four factories of its own in north India.
Additionally, Smile will be strengthened in important industries like consumer electronics, automotive, and aerospace and defense—”areas where Zetwerk already has a well-established market position,” according to Josh Foulger, President of Zetwerk Electronics.
