The Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) held a White Coat and Oath-Taking Ceremony to welcome its newest batch of MBBS and BDS students, symbolizing the beginning of their medical journey. The event was graced by KIIT and KISS Founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. CBK Mohanty, Dean and Principal Prof. (Dr.) RC Das, KIMS Medical Superintendent Dr. MR Behera, Vice Principal Prof. (Dr.) Lalatendu Mohanty, and the Principal of Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences Ashwini Kar.
In his address, Prof. CBK Mohanty encouraged the new students to make full use of the resources available at KIMS. “MBBS is a demanding curriculum, and you are lifelong learners. It is essential to continue reading and updating yourselves throughout your careers,” he said. He emphasized the importance of hard work and commitment, noting, “The effort you put into these five years will reward you for the next fifty years. Your success is our success as well.”
Dr. Achyuta Samanta also inspired the students, urging them to take full advantage of their time at KIMS, which ranks among the top medical institutes in the country. Highlighting the institution’s outstanding facilities, he pointed out the 2600-bed hospital and one of the country’s best simulation labs as prime resources for the students’ growth.
The White Coat Ceremony follows the Cadaveric Oath Ceremony, which took place on October 29 for the newly admitted MBBS batch of 2024-25. During that ceremony, Prof. (Dr.) Prajna Paramita Samanta, Head of the Department of Human Anatomy, emphasized the significance of cadaveric dissection in medical education, urging students to honour the donors whose contributions form the foundation of their training.
