‘Viksit Gaon’ is the path to a Viksit Bharat by 2047 says Union Minister

Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Shri Pemmasani Chandrasekhar, said that to make India developed by 2047, we must first make our villages developed. Speaking at the first meeting of the Performance Review Committee of the Rural Development Ministry in New Delhi, he said a “Viksit Gaon” (developed village) means:

  • Every family has a solid, permanent house with basic facilities
  • All villages are connected with good roads
  • Every young person has job opportunities
  • Every woman is empowered and financially independent

He said this goal is not just a dream, it can be achieved if we work with energy, new ideas, and strong dedication. The Minister added that the Rural Development Ministry is not just running schemes, but helping build the future of India. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Cabinet Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, great progress has been made.

Key Achievements:

  1. MGNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme)
  • It provides jobs to people in villages, especially when farming work is less.
  • Every year, the government spends ₹90,000 to ₹1,00,000 crore.
  • It creates strong, useful assets and generates over 250 crore workdays each year.
  • Over 36 crore job cards have been issued, and more than 15 crore workers are active.
  • The Minister suggested using the scheme more for building useful assets, doing different kinds of work, and involving local people in choosing projects.
  1. PMAY-G (Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana – Gramin)
  • Over 3.22 crore permanent houses have been built for poor rural families.
  • The aim is to build 2 crore more houses by 2029 due to population growth.
  • The Minister suggested using eco-friendly and cost-saving building techniques.
  1. PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana)
  • More than 7.56 lakh kilometres of rural roads have been built so far.
  • The Minister suggested setting up funds in each state to maintain these roads, involve communities in checking road quality, and find new ways to fund future projects.
  1. DAY-NRLM (Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Rural Livelihood Mission)
  • Over 10.05 crore rural women are part of 91 lakh Self Help Groups (SHGs).
  • These SHGs have received over ₹11 lakh crore from banks.
  • Under the Lakhpati Didi initiative, 1.5 crore women now earn more than ₹1 lakh per year. The goal is to reach 3 crore women.
  • The Minister said more should be done to give these women better credit, skills, and market support.
  1. DDU-GKY (Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana)
  • This programme has trained more than 17 lakh young people from villages.
  • Over 11 lakh of them have been placed in good jobs.

Also present at the meeting were Union Minister of State for Rural Development Shri Kamlesh Paswan, Secretary Shri Shailesh Kumar Singh, and other senior officials from the central and state governments.
