Maruti Suzuki India announced on Sunday that it will launch electric vehicles in the next months as part of its transition to a sustainable transportation future, as the country strives to become “Viksit Bharat” by 2047 and develops more quickly than ever before.
According to Maruti Suzuki India Chairman R.C. Bhargava, the company has not only contributed to the expansion and prosperity of its stakeholders but has also, inadvertently, generated millions of employment and benefited many facets of society.
At the publication of its annual integrated report for FY24, he declared, “The company will continue to partner with India in its ‘Viksit Bharat’ journey following its proven approach.”
Regarding cutting down on carbon emissions and reliance on foreign fuel, he stated that the ideal course of action would be to provide customers with cars that vary in price and technology, taking into account India’s economic and social landscape as well as the country’s resource availability.
“In the upcoming months, electric vehicles will be introduced. Customers should be encouraged to purchase vehicles with strong hybrid technology, CNG, ethanol and biogas, or both, even as the use of electric cars rises. Reduce your use of cars that only run on gasoline and diesel, Bhargava said.
Hybrid vehicles contribute to a 25%–35% reduction in carbon and greenhouse gas emissions and an approximate 35%–45% increase in fuel economy.
India has a lot of potential when it comes to producing biogas from human, animal, and agricultural waste. The company has begun producing biogas on a pilot basis.
“We look forward to government policies that would result in rapid development of this fuel,” Bhargava stated.
Maruti Suzuki India’s Managing Director and CEO, Hisashi Takeuchi, said the company is pleased of the jobs it has created, the improvements it has made to people’s quality of life, and the nation-building it has assisted in.
“Many of our business practices align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and with many of the government of India’s programmes, such as Make in India, Skill India, Startup India, and PM Gati Shakti,” stated Takeuchi.
