Vedanta Lanjigarh Skill Development Program

Vedanta Lanjigarh is helping rural youth in Kalahandi build better careers through its Skill Development Programmes (SDP). These programs provide industry-focused training to improve job opportunities, supporting the government’s Viksit Bharat mission and boosting local economic growth.

Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, CEO of Vedanta Alumina Business, highlighted the program’s goal: “We want to equip local youth with the skills they need for promising careers, helping them become self-reliant and part of the mainstream economy.”

The program supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:

  • Goal 1: No Poverty
  • Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth

Key Highlights of the Program:

  • Target: Train 1,200 youth over three years
  • Partners: Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) and NABARD
  • Sectors Covered: Food and Beverage Industry
  • Training Impact:
    • 15 batches trained so far
    • 632 youth trained, with 475 placed in top companies like Absolute Barbeques Nation, Club Mahindra, and Belgian Waffles
    • Average salary: ₹1.2 lakh per year

The initiative has significantly improved family incomes and given young people in Kalahandi stable career opportunities.
