LANJIGARH, SEP 30
Vedanta Lanjigarh, India’s leading producer of smelter-grade alumina and a unit of Vedanta Aluminium, has provided over 4 lakh meals for underprivileged children through its ‘Run for Zero Hunger’ campaign. This initiative will culminate in the third edition of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon on October 20, 2024. This year, the campaign aims to unite Vedanta employees, local communities, and sports enthusiasts to collectively contribute one crore meals across the country.
Participants can track their walking or running distances using a mobile application, with each kilometre translating to one meal. The campaign also encourages employees and their families to join in through various activities such as walkathons, mini-marathons, and heritage walks.
Commenting on this significant initiative, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO – Alumina Business, Vedanta Ltd., said, “It’s truly heartening to see our employees, business partners, and their families consistently supporting this noble cause. Our commitment to transforming communities in our operational areas aligns with the ‘Meals for All’ goal of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon. We are deeply aligned with our Chairman, Mr. Anil Agarwal’s vision of building an equitable future that contributes to a Viksit Bharat.”
Thanks to sustainable livelihood opportunities, the people of Kalahandi have made significant progress in improving their socio-economic conditions. Historically known for poor health indicators, particularly affecting women and children, the district has seen positive changes since Vedanta Lanjigarh began its operations. The company has actively addressed malnutrition through community-focused initiatives under the flagship program Nand Ghar, which supports a network of modernized Anganwadis. These centers provide women and children with access to nutrition, early childhood education, healthcare, and empowerment activities. Currently, over 200 Nand Ghars are transforming lives across Kalahandi.
