NEW DELHI, SEP 26
Vedanta Aluminium has become the first and only company in India to receive BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) certification for aluminium wire rods and rolled products, as the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) mandate comes into effect today. The certification covers products manufactured at Vedanta’s BALCO facility in Chhattisgarh and its Jharsuguda unit in Odisha.
On August 31, 2023, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Mines, introduced new regulations for the quality control of aluminium and aluminium alloys. With the September 26, 2024 deadline for mandatory BIS certification, Vedanta Aluminium has proactively ensured compliance, demonstrating its commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards and reinforcing its leadership position in the aluminium industry.
Vedanta Aluminium holds BIS certification for a wide range of aluminium products, including 12 mm wire rods, rolled sheets, conductor plates, rolled plates, EC ingots, alloy ingots, and primary ingots. These products serve various engineering and industrial applications. The company now boasts seven BIS certifications across 17 products, providing it with a competitive edge in both domestic and international markets.
Commenting on the achievement, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Vedanta Aluminium, said: “The government’s mandate for certification is a step in the right direction to ensure that India produces and consumes high-quality aluminium.
