JHARSUGUDA, SEP 13
Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, recently launched a comprehensive filaria awareness campaign, reaching over 90,000 residents across 85 villages in Jharsuguda district. The initiative included deployment of mobile health units, emergency response preparedness training, and the distribution of pamphlets on prevention and treatment. This campaign was executed in close collaboration with the district administration, ASHA workers, and Anganwadi workers.
Filaria, also known as Lymphatic Filariasis, is a severe tropical disease caused by parasitic worms transmitted through mosquito bites. It leads to painful and disfiguring swelling of limbs and other body parts. The disease often spikes during the monsoon season, posing a significant public health challenge, particularly in remote areas with limited access to quality healthcare.
To address this, Vedanta Aluminium conceptualized and implemented the awareness drive, which was inaugurated in the presence of Prabir Kumar Naik, Chief Development Officer, Jharsuguda; Jaikrushna Naik, Chief District Medical & Public Health Officer, Jharsuguda; Bulunath Sahu, District Program Manager, National Health Mission; and Dr. Radha Raman Bhirtia, Additional District Health Officer for Vector-borne Diseases, Jharsuguda. The campaign spanned 10 days.
Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer – Aluminium Business, said, “Our commitment to enhancing the quality of life in our communities is central to our social impact initiatives. The filaria awareness campaign exemplifies the collaborative spirit driving our efforts. We are proud to contribute to a significant public health milestone in Jharsuguda. The success of this campaign marks an important step toward improved health outcomes in the region and reinforces Vedanta Aluminium’s dedication to making a lasting, positive impact on the well-being of Jharsuguda.”
Dr. Jaikrushna Naik added, “The partnership with Vedanta Aluminium has been crucial to the success of this campaign. Their support and resources have enabled us to effectively reach a broad audience, providing essential information and resources to combat filaria. This collaborative effort showcases how public and private sectors can work together for the greater good of the community.”
