JHARSUGUDA, AUG 20
Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has successfully wrapped up a weeklong health awareness campaign targeting malaria, dengue, and diarrhoea (MDD) in Jharsuguda district. The initiative reached approximately 3,500 individuals, including children, adults, and senior citizens, across 28 villages and 2 special schools in the region. This effort, conducted in partnership with the District Health Administration, reflects Vedanta Aluminium’s strong commitment to improving community health in remote areas.
Throughout the campaign, the focus was on educating communities about the causes, prevention, and management of malaria, dengue, and diarrhoea. Mobile Health Units (MHUs) facilitated comprehensive discussions on the impact of these diseases, the importance of early detection, and necessary preventive measures. Special attention was given to sustainable practices and emergency response preparedness, equipping communities with the knowledge to effectively manage and mitigate these health risks. Key contributors included Birat Raja Pradhan, Consultant for Vector-Borne Diseases at the District Health Administration, and Dr. Jayanarayan Pujari, a doctor from Vedanta’s Mobile Health Units.
In addition to awareness sessions, Vedanta Aluminium distributed educational leaflets highlighting preventive measures such as using insecticide-treated mosquito nets, applying insect repellents, and maintaining clean environments to reduce disease vector breeding grounds.
Sharing his views, Vedanta Aluminium COO Sunil Gupta said, “At Vedanta Aluminium, we are dedicated to the health and well-being of our surrounding communities. Our health awareness campaigns are designed not only to raise awareness but also to promote long-term practices that combat seasonal diseases. This enhances the quality of life and creates a lasting social impact in the regions we serve.”
Birat Raja Pradhan added, “This collaborative effort with Vedanta Aluminium has been crucial in reaching out to the community and providing essential knowledge and resources to combat vector-borne diseases. By empowering individuals with the right information, we are making significant progress in reducing the risks associated with MDD in this region.”
Vedanta’s social initiatives extend beyond health to include education, healthcare, livelihood, skill development, grassroots sports, art and culture, with a special focus on women and child development. The company’s programs reach nearly 80 villages in Jharsuguda and surrounding areas, benefiting over 300,000 people annually. These initiatives empower approximately 5,000 women through over 350 Self-Help Groups (SHGs), provide doorstep healthcare services to about 50,000 people each year, support the education of more than 13,000 students, and have resulted in the planting of nearly 150,000 trees in collaboration with local communities.
