NEW DELHI, NOV 7

In observance of National Cancer Awareness Day, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, and BALCO Medical Centre (BMC) launched a series of health initiatives across Odisha and Chhattisgarh to promote cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment. The activities, aligned with this year’s theme, “Jaldi Pehchaan, Bacha Sakta Hai Aapki Jaan”, aimed to empower communities with knowledge on lifestyle changes, cancer risk factors, and the importance of regular screenings.

Key events included health rallies, expert talks, and free screening camps. In Bhawanipatna, a cancer awareness rally drew over 150 participants, followed by a combined cancer and sickle cell screening camp at the District Hospital, reaching more than 100 individuals. In Lanjigarh, a weeklong campaign across 30 villages focused on educating residents about cancer symptoms and prevention. A bike rally with 250 participants highlighted the cause, while a free cancer screening camp, set for November 9, will offer mobile screenings for breast, oral, and cervical cancers.

Vedanta also hosted an expert talk with Dr. Shravan Nadkarni, Surgical Oncologist at BMC, to provide employees with insights on cancer prevention and early detection.

Commenting on the significance of this day, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer, Vedanta Aluminium said, “Through initiatives like these, we want to try to do away with any stigma associated with cancer, and give people access to better healthcare facilities. Not only are we targeting enhanced community awareness, but we are also fostering a supportive environment where individuals feel empowered to seek early detection, treatment, and care.”

Dr. Bhawna Sirohi, Medical Director at BMC, added, “National Cancer Awareness Day is a crucial reminder to encourage proactive health choices and regular screenings to fight cancer effectively.”

Earlier in October, BMC conducted free digital mammography screenings to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Since 2018, Vedanta’s BMC has been a leader in oncological care in India, offering vital healthcare services to underserved communities in the region.
