“Set your targets to align with the best in the industry across all parameters to become the leading steel plant in the country,” urged Union Steel Secretary Sandeep Poundrik during a meeting with senior officers of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on Friday.

In his address, Poundrik outlined the strategic priorities for RSP, emphasizing the national goal of producing 300 million tonnes of steel by 2030. He stressed the need for capacity expansion, adherence to project timelines, and the importance of technological upgrades to enhance cost-efficiency and competitiveness. Additionally, he highlighted the rationalization and redeployment of manpower to achieve productivity levels on par with industry leaders. “Maintaining a rich legacy requires sustained efforts focused on current achievements and a well-planned future to uphold the plant’s glory,” he concluded.

The meeting was attended by SAIL Chairman Amarendu Prakash, Union Joint Secretary (Steel) Dr. Sanjay Roy, RSP Director In-Charge Atanu Bhowmick, ED (Works) SR Suryawanshi, ED (Mines) Alok Verma, ED (F&A) AK Behuria, as well as all the CGMs and other senior officers from RSP and SAIL Units.

Amarendu Prakash commended the RSP collective for its commitment to meeting challenging targets and praised the plant’s progress. Dr. Sanjay Roy underscored the importance of improving techno-economic parameters and labour productivity to ensure RSP’s competitive positioning in the market. Atanu Bhowmick welcomed the dignitaries and summarized the key discussion points.

The event featured a comprehensive presentation on RSP’s performance by Ricky Agarwal, AGM, ED (Works) Secretariat. The program was coordinated by Archana Satpathy, GM (PR) & CoC.

Later, the dignitaries visited the Musical Fountain at IG Park.

On the second day, Poundrik, Prakash, Dr. Roy, Bhowmick, and Amit Raj, Director (Technical), MECON, planted saplings at Indira Gandhi Park and also visited the Doll Museum at IG Park.

Subsequently, Poundrik and senior officers toured various departments of the Steel Plant, starting with the Model Room of the Learning and Development Department, where they were briefed on the layout design of RSP. A short video on ‘safety’ was also screened. The visit continued with stops at the Raw Material Handling Plant, Sintering Plant-3, Blast Furnace-V, Steel Melting Shop-2, Hot Strip Mill-2, and the New Plate Mill. Respective CGMs, HODs, and other senior officers provided updates on production and performance at each unit.

Before his departure in the afternoon, the Union Steel Secretary was accorded a Guard of Honour by the CISF unit of RSP at Rourkela House. He was given a warm send-off by the DIC and other senior officers of RSP at Rourkela Airport.
