The Indian Steel Association (ISA) awarded the prestigious ‘Wings of Steel’ accolade to Sagarika Soren, a member of the Commando team in the Security department at Jindal Stainless’ Jajpur plant. The award, presented in the ‘Gender and Diversity’ category, recognizes her exemplary leadership and pioneering spirit.

Steel Secretary Nagendra Nath Sinha presented Soren with the award during the 5th edition of the Indian Steel Conclave in New Delhi. In addition, Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, HD Kumaraswamy, honoured her with the Jury’s Special Award for her determination and resilience in overcoming adversity.

Soren’s journey began as a housekeeping staff member at Jindal Stainless’ Jajpur plant. Her exceptional leadership and commitment to excellence led her to the elite commando team. Hailing from Budhi Khumari village in Mayurbhanj district, Soren had to halt her studies after matriculation to support her family financially. Despite this setback, her perseverance and keen attention to detail garnered recognition, earning her two awards for outstanding performance. Her leadership qualities soon became evident, leading to her training as a security staff member in the commando team. Beyond her professional achievements, Soren is dedicated to her community, spending her free time educating children in her village.

Commending the awardee, Jindal Stainless Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal said, “It is an honour to see Ms. Soren recognized by the ISA. Her dedication, leadership, and courage are truly inspiring. At Jindal Stainless, we believe that women can reach great heights when given the opportunity. We are committed to fostering a workplace where women are empowered to achieve their goals and make a positive impact.”

Upon receiving the award, Soren expressed, “Receiving this prestigious award is a significant achievement for me. It demonstrates that women can excel in any field, regardless of their background. I am immensely grateful for the support and opportunities I have received at Jindal Stainless, and I am committed to inspiring others to pursue their passions with courage and determination.”

The ISA continues to serve as a vital platform for the Indian iron and steel industry, addressing issues, concerns, and challenges faced by its members with government and other stakeholders both within and outside India.
