The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) recently conducted Independent Drive Tests (IDT) in nine cities, highways, and railway routes across various Licensed Service Areas (LSAs) to assess the quality of voice and data services provided by major telecom operators, including Bharti Airtel, BSNL/MTNL, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea.

The tests were carried out in December 2024 in locations such as Aligarh & Meerut to Dehradun Railway Route (UP-West LSA), Bhubaneswar (Odisha LSA), Jammu City & Jammu to Srinagar Highway (J&K LSA), Lucknow & Fatehpur to Varanasi Highway (UP-East LSA), Navi Mumbai (Mumbai LSA), Raipur (Madhya Pradesh LSA), Siliguri, Darjeeling & Kalimpong (West Bengal LSA), Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala LSA), and Vapi-Rewari Highway (Gujarat LSA).

The drive tests aimed to evaluate network performance based on call quality, data speed, and service reliability. Key parameters assessed for voice services included call setup success rate, drop call rate (DCR), speech quality (Mean Opinion Score – MOS), packet drop rate, call silence rate, and signal coverage percentage.

For data services, the assessment covered data throughput (download & upload speeds), packet drop rate, video streaming delay, latency, and jitter. These observations reflect the performance of telecom service providers in the respective areas at the time of testing.

The detailed reports for each location, including test findings and distances covered, are available on the TRAI website (www.trai.gov.in). For further inquiries, Shri Tejpal Singh, Advisor (QoS-I), TRAI, can be contacted at adv-qos1@trai.gov.in or +91-11-20907759.
