TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited (TPWODL) has inaugurated a mass awareness campaign aimed at accelerating the adoption of solar rooftop solutions throughout Western Odisha. This initiative seeks to harness the region’s abundant solar resources and is a significant step forward in supporting the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY), in line with the state’s Renewable Energy (RE) Policy.
The campaign was officially launched by Parveen Verma, CEO of TPWODL, and Karthikeyan V, National Head of Sales, Channel Business at Tata Power. The event marked the beginning of a region-wide effort to encourage rooftop solar installations. The campaign’s primary goals are to educate residents, as well as commercial and industrial entities, on the benefits of solar power, the available subsidies, and the installation process.
As part of the campaign, early adopters of solar energy have been honoured as “Green Champions” for their commitment to sustainability and eco-friendly practices. With Western Odisha enjoying between 280 to 300 sunny days annually and its diverse landscape, the region is well-positioned to lead in solar energy generation. The state’s extensive land resources, including industrial wastelands and reservoirs, further enhance its potential for solar infrastructure development.
The campaign aims to raise awareness among both residential and commercial & industrial (C&I) customers about the financial and environmental advantages of switching to solar energy. Key incentives, such as the Central Financial Assistance (CFA) program under the PMSGMBY, will be highlighted. This program offers attractive subsidies, including Rs 30,000 per kW for 1-2 kW systems and Rs 78,000 for systems of 3 kW and above. Additionally, the campaign provides support for the application process and technical evaluations to facilitate a smooth transition to solar rooftops.
In his address, Parveen Verma emphasized the numerous benefits of solar rooftop solutions and encouraged everyone to take advantage of the scheme to promote environmental sustainability.
TPWODL’s campaign is designed to empower residents and businesses to invest in solar energy, reduce their carbon footprints, and contribute to India’s clean energy objectives.
