BERHAMPUR, SEP 3
TP Southern Odisha Distribution Limited (TPSODL) has launched a major awareness campaign to promote rooftop solar installations across Southern Odisha. This initiative supports the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY) and aligns with the state’s Renewable Energy Policy, highlighting Tata Power’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
The campaign aims to inform residents, commercial, and industrial customers about the benefits of solar energy and available subsidies.
Key highlights include the Central Financial Assistance (CFA) program under PMSGMBY, offering substantial subsidies for rooftop installations —Rs 30,000 per kW for 1-2 kW systems and Rs 78,000 for systems above 3 kW. The campaign also provides support with the application process and technical evaluations.
Inaugurated by Amit Kumar Garg, CEO of TPSODL, and Kaushik Sanyal, National Head-Renewables at Tata Power, the campaign marks the start of a state-wide effort to encourage solar rooftop adoption. Consumers participating in the initiative were recognized as ‘Green Champions’ for their contributions to sustainability.
Odisha, with 280-300 sunny days annually, is well-positioned for significant solar energy expansion. Southern Odisha, with its diverse natural features, is particularly suited for solar infrastructure.
Garg emphasized, “Our campaign in Southern Odisha is designed to leverage the region’s solar potential. By promoting PMSGMBY, we aim to make solar energy accessible and affordable, empowering our 2.3 million consumers with reliable and clean energy solutions.”
Odisha currently has around 460 MW of installed solar capacity, with goals to reach 10 GW by 2030. The campaign supports these goals by encouraging investment in solar energy, reducing carbon footprints, and contributing to India’s clean energy objectives.
Tata Power Solar, with over 2 GW of rooftop capacity and a 13 percent market share, continues to lead the industry, committed to providing affordable and sustainable solar energy solutions nationwide.
