The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) said on Sunday that telecom service providers (TSPs) are still dedicated to having positive conversations about quality of service (QoS)-related issues with the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).

TSPs have continuously made investments to improve QoS by making major network infrastructure advancements, which has increased stability and dependability.

Furthermore, the COAI stated that significant efforts are in progress to fiberize towers throughout India, an essential measure for the effective implementation of 5G services.

“Trai has tightened the QoS criteria over time, but the actual conditions on the ground have not altered. According to Lt. Gen. Dr. S.P. Kochhar, Director General of COAI, “TSPs continue to face challenges related to Right of Way (RoW) when obtaining permissions for infrastructure deployment in public and private land for the installation of cell towers and fiber-optic cables.”

The primary trade association claims that the added need for street furniture for 5G networks has made the situation worse.

Furthermore, the COAI reported that signal quality and network performance are deteriorated by interference from a variety of sources, including electromagnetic interference and other wireless devices.

“In addition, unauthorized agents’ use of boosters and repeaters, along with instances of equipment theft, are external factors that negatively affect the Quality of Services,” Kochhar stated, noting that TSPs have little control over these outside influences.

Active telecom equipment theft has significantly increased throughout the nation and is being sold on multiple platforms.

TSPs have continuously complied with TRAI’s QoS requirements in spite of these obstacles.

“The industry expresses concern over the proposed regulations, which in many cases shift reporting from site to cell level reporting and from quarterly to monthly reporting in addition to tightening benchmarks,” the COAI stated.

Kochhar claims that no other regulator in other comparable economies has implemented the QoS requirements outlined in the new laws.

“While advocating for regulations that recognize the practical challenges faced by our industry, our member organizations will continue to strive for excellence in service quality,” Kochhar continued.
