Tata Steel’s Khondbond Iron Mine has been honoured with the prestigious ‘Excellence in Mining’ award by the Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) during a ceremony in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The award was presented by VL Kantha Rao, Secretary of the Ministry of Mines, Government of India.
Accepting the award on behalf of the company were GV Satyanarayana, Chief of Khondbond; Manish Mishra, Chief of Corporate Affairs; Awnish Kumar, Chief of Mine Planning; Abhishek Singh, Area Manager of Mining Operations; and SB Sandha, President of the Khondbond Iron Mine Mazdoor Union.
The Khondbond Iron Mine has established itself as an industry leader by implementing cutting-edge technologies and best mining practices. It has effectively utilized advanced mining software, drone technology, fleet management systems, remote-controlled drills, and real-time quality monitoring systems to achieve benchmark performance.
This prestigious recognition for ‘Best Overall Performance in Sustainable Development of Mines’ reflects Tata Steel’s commitment to sustainable mining practices.
The FIMI Excellence Award encourages businesses to integrate economic, social, and environmental sustainability into their operations. Established in 2004-05 in memory of Bala Gulshan Tandon by the late GL Tandon, former Chairman of Coal India Limited, the award promotes responsible business models that balance profit with societal and environmental well-being.
