The 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation, was celebrated in Rourkela on Wednesday with an atmosphere of devotion, commitment, and serenity. Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) organized a grand function at the Civic Centre to commemorate this significant day. The event featured recitations of bhajans, the rendition of the mantra ‘Sarbadharma Samanwaya,’ and reflections on the key teachings of the Mahatma, making it a truly memorable occasion.
Many distinguished individuals from RSP paid floral tributes to Gandhiji’s statue, including Atanu Bhowmick, Director In-Charge; Tarun Mishra, ED (HR); Alok Vema, ED (Mines) with additional charge of ED (Works); AK Behuria, ED (F&A); Anil Kumar, CGM In-charge (MM); Dr. JK Acharya, CMO In-charge (M&HS); numerous senior officers from RSP; prominent citizens of the steel city; and a large number of students.
The celebration began with the melodious rendition of Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite prayer, ‘Baishnaba Janato…’ performed by Ashalata Sarangi, an eminent singer, along with artists from Singhari Kala Niketan.
A Sarvadharma Sadhbhawna Sabha was the highlight of the program, featuring readings from the Holy Guru Granth Sahib by members of the Guru Singh Sabha, Rourkela; stanzas from the Holy Bible by a group from Sacred Heart Cathedral Church, Hamirpur; verses from the Holy Koran by members of Ispat Anjuman, Sector 15; and recitations from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita by students from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Sector-7. A skit on the life and ideology of Bapuji performed by artists from Kalyani Kala Parishad was a standout moment of the cultural program.
The event concluded with a collective recitation of Bapu’s favourite Ramdhun. The program was anchored by Anil Mallick, MOMT, Silicon Steel Mill.
Earlier in the morning, the DIC Bhowmick and other senior officers offered floral tributes at the scenic Mahatma Gandhi Udyan, paying their respects to the great leader.
