As of June 30, 2024, the Ministry of Health’s most recent data shows that 7.37 crore hospital admissions valued at Rs 1 lakh crore had been approved under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).

Thirty-three states and territories have adopted the plan.

Madhya Pradesh, with 402.5 lakh Ayushman cards produced under the PMJAY scheme, Maharashtra (280 lakh), Karnataka (171.5 lakh), Jammu and Kashmir (85.9 lakh), Telangana (82.5 lakh), Tamil Nadu (73.6 lakh), and Meghalaya (19.76 lakh) are the top states in this regard.

Those who meet the program’s eligibility requirements can produce their Ayushman cards whenever they choose throughout the year.

Beneficiaries who meet the requirements can generate their own Ayushman card using the Ayushman App or by going to the closest CSC or hospital that has an affiliation with them.

According to official data, AB-PMJAY promises to provide health coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization to about 55 crore beneficiaries, or 12.34 crore families, which constitute the lowest 40% of India’s population.

In the nation’s more than 29,000 accredited hospitals, eligible recipients can get cashless and paperless healthcare services linked to hospitalization.

All associated costs are covered by the cashless treatment, including those for supplies, medications, diagnostic services, doctor visits, lodging, surgery, OT, ICU, and other services.

According to the Health Ministry, the most popular specialty care treatments received by recipients thus far are general medicine, infectious diseases, general surgery, medical oncology, ophthalmology, and orthopaedics.

The Health Benefit Package (HBP) offers cashless healthcare services for 1,949 procedures in 27 medical disciplines, including as general medicine, surgery, cardiology, oncology, etc., according to the most recent national data.

The procedures that the patients received included several packages, acute febrile sickness, hemodialysis, and Covid-19 screening.

The revised projection of ₹6,800 crore for 2023–24 has resulted in a 10% rise in the PMJAY plan funding to ₹7,300 crore in the Budget for 2024–25.

The budget’s total allotment to the Health Ministry has increased to ₹90,958.63 crore, up 12.96 percent from ₹80,517.62 crore in the updated estimate for 2023–2024.

The government has also declared customs duty exemptions on three cancer treatment medications: trastuzumab Deruxtecan, osimertinib, and durvalumab. These announcements are a part of the healthcare package included in the Budget. The goal of the action is to lower the expense of cancer patients’ treatments.
