Mann Ki Baat first aired on October 3, 2014. It is a popular program on All India Radio where the Prime Minister speaks to the nation about important social and national issues.
World Radio Day was first announced by UNESCO in 2011 and became an official International Day through the United Nations in 2012.
The day was first celebrated on February 13 to honor radio’s important role in sharing information, culture, and ideas.
Even with the popularity of TV and smartphones, radio remains a trusted way to share news, entertain, and educate. It is especially useful during emergencies.
Community radio plays a key role by giving a platform to voices that are often overlooked and raising awareness about issues like climate change and social challenges.
Radio, which sends information using sound waves, was invented in the late 19th century. In India, it arrived in the early 20th century and grew into a powerful and widely used medium of communication.
World Radio Day reminds us of the lasting importance of radio, its ability to encourage dialogue, and its power to unite people across different regions and cultures.
