As India celebrates 11 years of the Digital India initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the country’s youth for their pivotal role in powering innovation, digital empowerment, and self-reliance. From transforming governance to driving tech-led growth, Digital India has ushered in a new era of inclusion, speed, and transparency.

“Powered by the youth of India, we are making remarkable progress in innovation and application of technology,” PM Modi posted on X. “It is strengthening our efforts to become self-reliant and a global tech powerhouse. #11YearsOfDigitalIndia”

From No-Net Zones to a Bold, Smart Bharat

What began as a vision in 2015 has now evolved into a full-fledged digital leap. India, once burdened by digital divides, now has 116 crore mobile subscribers and over 2.18 lakh Gram Panchayats connected with optical fibre under BharatNet.

Internet affordability has been a key driver—cost per GB of data has dropped from ₹308 to just ₹9.34, enabling a 285% rise in internet users in just over a decade. This digital connectivity has reshaped how Bharat lives, learns, earns, and accesses services.

Youth at the Heart of India’s Tech Growth

India’s young innovators—equipped with expertise in AI, fintech, blockchain, and health-tech—have fueled the country’s rise as a global technology hub. With more than 1 lakh registered startups and over 100 unicorns, India’s tech ecosystem is thriving.

From healthcare to governance, India’s youth are delivering cutting-edge solutions. The telemedicine platform eSanjeevani has digitally consulted over 37 crore patients, while platforms like DigiLocker (with 52 crore+ users) and UMANG (with 8+ crore users) have made access to essential services easier and paperless.

Governance at Fingertips: A Digital Transformation

The Prime Minister emphasized that technology has brought transparency and efficiency, especially for the underprivileged.

“Technology has become a means of empowering the lives of the poorest of poor. Service delivery and transparency have been greatly boosted,” Shri Modi said.

Key achievements include:

  • ₹44 lakh crore transferred directly to citizens through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), eliminating corruption.
  • 49% of the world’s real-time digital transactions now occur in India, thanks to the UPI revolution.
  • ₹13+ lakh crore worth of government procurement processed via the GeM portal by March 2025.

Space Tech to Commerce: India’s Global Footprint

India’s digital momentum extends into space and commerce. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched 393 foreign satellites in the past 11 years, while initiatives like ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce) are transforming how India shops and sells online.

India’s digital economy is not just about urban growth—it’s bridging the rural-urban divide, enabling online education, digital skilling, and access to government benefits across remote corners of the nation.

India’s Techade: The Big Picture

India’s Techade isn’t just a phase — it’s a full-blown digital leap.
From no-net zones to fingertip governance,
From cash queues to UPI taps —
This revolution rewired how Bharat lives, works, and grows.”

As India looks ahead, PM Modi reaffirmed the vision of building a Viksit Bharat—a developed, self-reliant nation driven by innovation, digital infrastructure, and people-first governance.

India celebrates 11 years of Digital India with PM Modi applauding youth-led innovation that has powered self-reliance, service delivery, and tech transformation. With 116 crore mobile users, ₹44 lakh crore DBT transfers, and 49% global share in digital transactions, India’s Techade is bold, inclusive, and future-ready.
