Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday distributed ₹5,000 each to over 18 lakh women as part of the Subhadra Yojana, a financial assistance scheme for women in the state. This marks the fourth phase of the first installment of the scheme.
₹900 Crore Transferred to Beneficiaries
At a function in Jajpur district, the Chief Minister, along with Deputy CM Pravati Parida and Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, transferred ₹900 crore directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
With this latest installment, a total of over 98 lakh women in Odisha have now received ₹5,000 each under the Subhadra Yojana, a scheme introduced by the BJP government in the state.
Helping Women Become Financially Strong
CM Majhi said that by providing direct cash assistance, the government is strengthening the financial independence of women in Odisha. He believes that many women will use this money to start small businesses, improving their own economic condition and contributing to the state’s progress.
“The goal is to create a developed Odisha with the help of women’s efforts,” the Chief Minister said. He assured that the government will continue to support women through this scheme.
Timeline of the Subhadra Yojana Payouts
The 4th phase of the payments was originally scheduled for December 25, 2024, but was delayed due to the ongoing verification process. Earlier, in the 3rd phase on November 24, 2024, 20 lakh women received the funds.
The Subhadra Yojana was officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, 2024, after the BJP came to power in Odisha, ending 24 years of BJD rule.
Breakdown of Previous Payments:
- 1st Phase (September 17, 2024): 25 lakh women received assistance.
- 2nd Phase (October 9, 2024): 39 lakh women benefitted.
- 3rd Phase (November 24, 2024): 20 lakh women received funds.
Next Payment Scheduled for March 8
Deputy CM Pravati Parida announced that the next phase of payments will be made on March 8, 2025, to coincide with International Women’s Day.
She also mentioned that the state government plans to include over one crore women, aged 21 to 59 years, under the scheme.
The Subhadra Yojana is part of the government’s effort to support and empower women by improving their financial stability and encouraging economic growth in Odisha.
