BHUBANESWAR, AUG 26

In line with the Government of India’s Skill India Initiative, state-run NALCO has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Iron and Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC). This agreement aims to implement a system for the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) by conducting NSQF-based skill development programs, which will be followed by assessments and certification from IISSSC for NALCO’s contractual employees across the organization.

Through this collaboration, NALCO and IISSSC will work together to enhance the competency levels of NALCO’s workforce to meet industry standards. The MoU will support both organisations in advancing the Skill India mission and fostering sustainable growth in their respective sectors.

The MoU signing ceremony took place at Nalco Bhawan in Bhubaneswar and was attended by Sridhar Patra, CMD of NALCO; the Directors of NALCO; Dr. Sushim Banerjee, CEO of IISSSC; Pritam Shankar Purkayastha, Director of BPNSI; and officials from NALCO, IISSSC, and BPNSI.

Speaking on the occasion, NALCO CMD Sridhar Patra said, “The benefits of skill training will significantly contribute to the safe and sustained operation of our organisation.”

The Indian Iron and Steel Sector Skill Council (IISSSC) was established as per the Government of India’s National Skill Development Policy of 2009. Its mission is to bridge the skill gap by complementing the vocational education system through research, enhancing delivery mechanisms, and ensuring quality. IISSSC identifies skill development needs, maintains skill inventories, and plans and executes training for trainers through the development of an IT-enabled Labour Management Information System (LMIS).
