NAKSHA training moves to next phase – 128 officers to learn Geo-Survey tools across India

NAKSHA learn geo survey tools

The Department of Land Resources (DoLR) under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India is launching the second batch of Phase 2 of its training programme under the NAKSHA (National Geospatial Knowledge-based Land Survey of Urban Habitations) initiative. This batch will begin on 16th June 2025 across four Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in India.

So far, the programme has successfully trained 160 Master Trainers (completed in May 2025) at NIGST, Hyderabad and 151 ULB officers from 2nd–7th June 2025 across five CoEs.

This new batch of training will be inaugurated virtually by Shri Manoj Joshi, Secretary, DoLR, on 16th June 2025 at 10:00 A.M. A total of 128 officers from 74 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) have been nominated to participate. They will receive hands-on training for one week on how to use modern geospatial technology for urban land/property surveys at the following four training centres:

  1. Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA), Pune, Maharashtra
  2. Northeast Region Centre of Excellence, Guwahati, Assam
  3. Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration (MGSIPA), Chandigarh, Punjab
  4. Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Mysuru, Karnataka

The training will help ULB and district-level officers develop the practical and technical skills needed to manage accurate urban land surveys. Topics will include GNSS and ETS-based surveying methods, Web-GIS tools, land parcel mapping, and the legal side of land surveys.

The NAKSHA programme is a modern, tech-driven initiative to improve land surveys and records. It is led by the Department of Land Resources in partnership with the Survey of India, NICSI, MPSeDC, and five CoEs. NAKSHA is currently being run as a pilot project in 157 ULBs across 27 States and 3 Union Territories.
