Maruti Suzuki eVitara crash tested

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch its first electric SUV, the e-Vitara, in India. The production is ready and the model was first showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 last month. Now, before its official launch, new images have surfaced showing the car undergoing crash tests to check its safety features.

Crash Tests and Safety Features

The e-Vitara has been tested for frontal and side crashes as well as battery safety. However, these tests were likely conducted internally by the company i.e. Maruti Suzuki itself and not by official safety agencies like Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) or Global NCAP.

For safety, the SUV is equipped with seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) to ensure driver and passenger protection. It also features an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) for better control during braking.

Additionally, the electronic parking brake provides convenience and stability, while the Acoustic Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) enhances pedestrian safety by emitting sound to alert nearby people of the vehicle’s presence.

Additionally, the e-Vitara will be the first Maruti car to feature Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), enhancing both safety and convenience. It includes, Automatic Emergency Braking, which applies brakes automatically if a collision is likely, and Lane Keep Assist, which helps keep the car centered in its lane.

The system also offers Lane Departure Prevention, which warns the driver if the vehicle unintentionally drifts out of its lane. Adaptive Cruise Control adjusts the car’s speed based on traffic conditions, ensuring a smooth driving experience. Lastly, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert provides warnings about approaching vehicles while reversing, reducing the risk of accidents in parking situations.

Battery, Power, and Range

The e-Vitara will be available with two battery options: a 49 kWh battery paired with a 144 hp motor and a 61 kWh battery with a 174 hp motor. Both versions generate 189 Nm of torque, ensuring a smooth and responsive drive.

Additionally, Maruti will offer an all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant, which delivers 184 hp and 300 Nm of torque for enhanced performance. The larger 61 kWh battery provides an impressive range of up to 500 km on a single charge, making it a strong contender in the electric SUV segment.

Competition in the Market

When the e-Vitara is launched, it will compete with other electric SUVs like the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta EV, and Mahindra BE 6. These cars are already popular in India’s growing electric vehicle market because they offer good performance, long battery range, and modern features. With its strong safety features and powerful battery, the e-Vitara is expected to be a great option for buyers looking for an electric SUV.

Expected Launch and Pricing

Maruti Suzuki has not yet announced the price or launch date of the e-Vitara, but it is expected to be revealed soon. With its strong safety features, powerful battery, and long driving range, this electric SUV is expected to be a good choice for buyers looking for an affordable and reliable EV. Stay tuned for more updates on the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara!
