BHUBANESWAR, OCT 23
In a significant move to enhance passenger facilities and improve travel experiences, Mancheswar Railway Station is set to undergo a major redevelopment with an investment of Rs 26.85 crore. This initiative, part of the Ministry of Railways’ Amrit Stations project, highlights the station’s importance within the East Coast Railway (ECoR) jurisdiction.
Strategically located near the vibrant Mancheswar Industrial Estate, Mancheswar Station currently manages 22 trains and serves as a crucial transit point for commuters in the region. The proposed upgrades aim to cater to the increasing passenger traffic and modernize the station’s infrastructure.
Key features of the development plan include a new, modern station building spanning 760 square metres, along with improved traffic circulation in a beautified area of 4,000 square metres that will feature unidirectional traffic flow and dedicated entry and exit gates. The front façade of the existing station building will also be enhanced, covering 243 square metres. A 12-metre wide foot over bridge (FOB) will be constructed to facilitate safer pedestrian movement. Besides, a spacious parking area designed for two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and auto rickshaws will accommodate up to 1,056 square metres.
To ensure accessibility for all passengers, four lifts will be installed, alongside additional platform shelters across multiple platforms totalling 45 bays for enhanced comfort. A large waiting hall measuring 180 square metres will be included, as well as premium modular toilets for both men and women, covering 80 square metres. The platform surfaces will be upgraded with durable flamed granite and heavy-duty mosaic tiles, complemented by comprehensive signage for improved navigation throughout the station.
Currently, the project has achieved 35 per cent physical progress, demonstrating a strong commitment to enhancing passenger experiences at this key station. This redevelopment reflects the growing demands of commuters in Bhubaneswar and aims to set a benchmark for future railway station projects across the country.
