The Society of Indian vehicle Manufacturers (SIAM) has collated data indicating that during the April-June quarter of the current financial year, India’s vehicle exports had a strong 15.5% growth when compared to the same time in the previous year.
The expected number of automobiles shipped overseas was 11,92,577, an increase from 10,32,449 during the same period previous year.
From 1,52,156 units exported the year before to 1,80,483 units, a 19% increase in passenger car exports.
Leading manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India exported the most cars during the quarter, totaling 69,962 units, up from 62,857 units during the same period in the previous year. Hyundai Motor India, Maruti’s fiercest rival, was in second place with 42,600 vehicles exported, up from 35,100 units during the same period last year.
In the first quarter, 9,23,148 two-wheeler units were shipped overseas, up 17% from 7,91,316 units in the same period the previous year. This represents a double-digit growth in two-wheeler exports as well.
Commercial vehicle shipments increased by 8% during the quarter to an anticipated 15,741 units, up from 14,625 units the previous year.
In contrast, three-wheeler exports decreased by 3% during the quarter to 71,281 units from 73,360 units the previous year.
