IIT Bhubaneswar and Ramco Cement join hands for sustainable construction research

IIT Bhubaneswar and Ramco Cements Limited have signed an agreement to set up a research center focused on sustainable construction and climate resilience. This Center of Excellence, named RAMCO Sustainable Construction and Climate Resiliency Centre (RAMSCON), will work on developing advanced and eco-friendly building materials.

Ramco Cements, based in Chennai, runs cement factories and grinding units across India, including Odisha. The new center at IIT Bhubaneswar will research durable and efficient concrete solutions that help reduce environmental impact. The project aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to make India’s construction industry more eco-friendly.

The agreement was signed by Prof. Prashant Sahu from IIT Bhubaneswar and Balaji K. Moorthy, Executive Director (Marketing) of Ramco Cements, in the presence of Prof. Shreepad Karmalkar, Director of IIT Bhubaneswar, along with faculty members and company executives.

Prof. Karmalkar said, “This collaboration will strengthen ties between industry and academia in sustainable construction.”

Ramco Cements officials also expressed confidence that this partnership will lead to new research and innovations in concrete technology and sustainable building methods.

Key faculty members from IIT Bhubaneswar, including Prof. Dinakar Pasla, Dr. Umesh Chandra Sahoo, and Prof. Sumanta Haldar, along with executives from Ramco Cements, were present at the event.
