Google has made its latest version of the Gemini 2.0 AI available to all, as it pushes ahead in the race to build better AI models. Developers can now use Gemini 2.0 Flash to create production applications, and an experimental version called Gemini 2.0 Pro—designed for top-notch coding and handling complex tasks—is also being released.
What’s New?
- Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite: Now in public preview, this cost-efficient model is available in Google AI Studio and Vertex AI.
- Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental: This version can be accessed by users of the Gemini app on both desktop and mobile devices.
- Gemini 2.0 Pro: This experimental model, noted for its strong coding performance and ability to handle complex prompts, features a huge context window of up to 2 million tokens. This allows it to analyze and understand large amounts of information and to work with tools like Google Search and execute code.
Safety and Security
Google is committed to making these models safe and secure. The company is investing in measures to prevent cybersecurity threats, including techniques like automated red teaming, which tests the AI system for potential risks such as hidden malicious instructions.
Looking Ahead
All the new models support multimodal input, meaning they can handle different types of data, though for now, they produce text output. Google plans to introduce support for more input types in the coming months.
With these updates, Google aims to improve the performance and versatility of its AI tools while ensuring they are secure for all users.
